Partial List of the Officers and Crew of the ship Ranger taken at Charleston (July 1780)

The following partial list of 11 Officers and Crew of the ship Ranger is compiled from the “Statement of claims which have been adjusted and allowed at the Treasury Department…on the 27th of March 1792” and published beginning page 387 in American State Papers (1834). With the exception of Thomas Applebee and John Colbath, the claimants represent the last crew of the Ranger prior to her capture at the siege of Charleston which resulted in the surrender of over 5,200 American soldiers and sailors on 12 May 1780. Each man’s rate, date the claim was adjusted to and amount of claim is noted. The date noted is the last date of pay and presumably the date of release from confinement. A second simplified and alphabetized list follows for ease of internet browsing.
